A Comprehensive After School Program for Students Grades K – 12. LEAP to get started! BUILD on the future. Find your voice and YELL. Become part of a KREW. The mission of the HUSD ASP is to provide a safe, nurturing, academically-enriching and productive after school learning environment which will empower students to become outstanding achievers and positive citizens. LEAP offers before school and after school programs. Our kindergarten classes do a variety of indoor and outdoor center activities that support and reinforce the instructional school day. For 1 st through 3 rd grades, our program offers an hour of academics where our NCLB qualified Program Leaders provide homework assistance and academic center activities that are content standards-based. Students will have an opportunity to participate in Character Education through the Every Monday Matters and Character Counts Curriculums. Additionally, students will participate in enrichment clubs on a six week rotation such as Star Wars Book Club, Journalism, CSI, Mad Science, Garden, Youth Council and many more! Students also participate in physical activity implemented through the SPARK and Skillastics Curriculums, which teach the students the basic skills necessary for sport and physical development. Students participate in a positive reinforcement program where Program Leaders reward students with “banana bucks” for exhibiting positive behavior and character. These “bucks” are then used to buy fun prizes at the end of every month during our Reward Parties. BUILD & YELL (housed at the Fox Road / Ross campus), offer an academic hour where students participate in either homework support provided by NCLB qualified Program Leaders or tutorial classes focusing on reinforcement of Math and Language skills learned during the school day. Tutorial is provided by Credentialed Regular Day Teachers. Students also have an option to participate in Academic Centers that are content standards based. BUILD provides students with Character Education through the use of the Every Monday Matters and Character Counts Curriculums. YELL students also participate in Character Education through Every Monday Matters. Additionally, YELL students will learn about civic responsibility and be challenged to become citizens of change through the use of the Project Citizen Curriculum. Both BUILD and YELL offer six week enrichment club rotations such as Journalism, Youth Council, CSI, Garden and many more! Students also have an opportunity to participate in physical activity through the use of SPARK or Skillastics curriculum which teaches teambuilding as well as the skills necessary for sport and physical development. Students participate in a positive reinforcement program where Program Leaders reward students with “Moolah” for exhibiting positive behavior and character. “Moolah” is used to “pay” their way into special events or time on the Nintendo Wii. Kids Reaching Excellence With Skills to succeed is located in the old welding building on the Hughson High School campus. Our goal is to provide a safe and educational environment for all students. We provide academic support such as tutorial assistance, credit recovery, and elective credits for those students who need to get back on track in order to graduate. KREWS students will benefit from participating in mentoring and volunteer programs to help build their portfolios and better prepare them for their High School Exit Interviews. Students will also have an opportunity to learn about civic responsibility and become agents of change in their communities through the use of the Project Citizen Curriculum. Our enrichment program combines career development and life skills with content standards to help students make informed decisions regarding their educational and vocational aspirations.
